Christian Meditation

On Wednesday 13th January, 2010 at the Holy Saviour Church, Canon Phil Barnett, from the Anglican Church in Canada, conducted a lecture discussion on Christian Meditation.

He indicated that meditation involves coming to stillness of spirit and stillness of body; and that because of the profound change meditation can work in one's life, it is even more than a way of prayer ... it is a way of life, a way of living from the deep centre of one's being.

Participants were led in a 15-minute practice session.

Information on this type of meditation can be found at http://www.meditatio.ca/enindex.html or http://wccm.org

Mothers' Union of T&T launches Website

The Mothers' Union of Trinidad and Tobago has launched its website (demo). This effort was spearheaded by their proactive President, Phyllis Raghunanan. She believes that this medium of communication will effectively disseminate information on the work of the Mothers' Union, not only in Trinidad and Tobago but throughout the world. Her hope too, is that this will stimulate mothers who do not belong to the Union, to become members of the organization.

The site can be found at http://mothersuniontt.com

Study of "A Catechism of Creation"

Part II is now available at the churches.

Holy Saviour Parish is studying and discussing the document entitled “A Catechism of Creation – An Anglican Understanding”, prepared for study in parish education and faith formation classes by the Committee on Science, Technology and Faith of the Executive Council of the Episcopal (Anglican) Church in the USA.

The three parts of the document will be given to parishioners to study and prepare questions and comments prior to the discussion days. Part I outlines the doctrine of creation, drawing upon the Bible and the theology of the early Church. Part II presents basic information about modern scientific discoveries and theories about the history of the universe and of life. It also gives examples showing how science has informed and inspired a new theological understanding of God’s relationship to the creation. Finally, Part III presents the biblical basis for the church’s commitment to an ethic of caring for creation, and suggests ways in which individuals and congregations might live out this ministry.

The hope is that it will invite congregations to develop an intentional ministry of caring for creation in their own communities, and inspire them to incorporate celebration of the creation in common worship.

The Catechism of Creation may also serve as a resource for devotional purposes. It invites readers to enter into a richer and fuller relationship to, and appreciation for, God’s magnificent creation, to celebrate it with thanksgiving, and to devote themselves to caring for it.

The full document is available for study at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/documents/CreationCatechism.pdf

The Vine Ministry

The Vine is a ministry for children. While Vine 1 caters for children between 5 and 12 years old, Vine 2 provides for those who are 12 and over.

The mission of the Vine is to make Jesus Christ known to children in such a way that they will be able to embrace the principles of Christian living and try to live the Jesus way, so that they may grow into morally conscious individuals.

In addition to making the good news of the love of Jesus known to children and planting the seed of faith in them, the Vine focuses on encouraging children to meet God daily through prayers, the bible, and creation, and on helping them to build their self esteem. Thus, as they grow in Christian maturity, they will become committed members of the body of Christ – the church – to serve the world.

The Vine was founded by Evelyn Hordatt and meets every first and third Saturday from 10.00 a.m to 12.00 noon at the Holy Saviour Parish hall. To register your child or for more information, contact Aunty Evelyn at 662-5732.

Monthly House Services

Soon, we will be holding House Services in each of the four regions of the parish. If you would like to offer your home for one of these services, please contact Reverend Marsha Joseph.

These services will be used as a platform to further spread the Good News to neighbours, friends, and especially to non-worshipers within the areas.
